You know when you visit a popular travel destination and what you end up visiting pretty much resembles what you see on the postcards at the airport? Well, we’ve all been there and as much as I enjoy standing in front of important monuments, art or buildings, this last trip to New York City was the complete opposite of that. This time, I saw New York for what is really is: the people behind it.
This is by far the best way to experience it and I can honestly say that the impression the city has left me with has stuck, big time. I had chats with, dine with, shopped with and met with the most awe-inspiring individuals who all together have made me feel like I truly know this place now. Of course, I still could not tell you how to get anywhere or how to navigate freely around it, (especially not after an incident where my husband and I were staring at the bus map for several minutes and couldn’t find where any of the subway stations were on it), but what I can say is that after spending quality time with these New Yorkers, I’ve met the city properly and love it even more, from the inside out.

Please tell me you sent a truck load of fabulous purchases home from the Brooklyn flea market? Next time I am SO going there. The Chelsea market also looks great! What I love about NYC is that each and every time I have visited it’s been a completely new and different experience which leaves you wanting to go back for more. Here’s to another visit full of fabulous new experiences in May!
Hey looks like you had a great time! It’s always fun to see home from the eyes of a visitor – isn’t Ace..Ace? I near lived there during the world cup this summer! Thank goodness for their wifi, it enabled me to work during the game while my boss was none the wiser!
Hope you visit again soon, this place changes with the seasons.
Fantastic shots Michelle. A different look that I havent seen before. Can’t wait to check it out for myself…. So pleased that you’ve made fab friends to enjoy it with … makes a difference when somebody shows their city … Lets see know, that’s 3 visitis in a year ??? I think you can call it home soon … hahaha Good for you guys … Loved the blog, Loved the pics! Nicely done.
Oooh, got a little flutter from some of those photos! Great post… Oh boy, I need to get back there!
This is how it’s done. Seriously, what a brilliant blog post. I was hooked right from the very first shot of Montreal at 6am! Totally agree with you about the Chelsea Market – that was one of the highlights of our trip there in September. Did you walk away with anything from the brooklyn flea? I’d have snapped up one of those typewriters without a second thought! Were they expensive?
P.S. The shot of the big chalk wall and surrounding architecture? I’d hang that on my wall!
Gorgeous shots, I am ready to hop a train to NYC this moment!
Oh my goodness there are now more reasons to visit NYC than ever before! Thanks for sharing, Michelle. I love the Brooklyn flea finds…and my bf would be gaga for those typewriters. I need to get myself to NYC stat!

Hi Michelle – your pictures are GREAT!
We go to NYC at least once a year for work but the last time we were there a similar thing happened. We were at the Stationery Show as usual but this time I made an effort to really connect with my online friends. I had lunch and dinner and drinks with so many people that I have known for a long time but only chatted to online.
I have to say it was the best trip ever. Meeting online colleagues face to face has been one of my ongoing goals since then. It’s so rewarding! And it makes you feel like you know the city better because you are socializing with locals and regular visitors.
glad to hear you had such a fantastic time. So bummed that I missed you, we will definitely have to meet up in the Spring.
Wow I so love this post! Your photos are awesome and I love NYC! I went there for my honeymoon over a yr ago and it was the best holiday ever….can’t wait to go back there again, it’s just one of those cities that has really captivated me
