Funny how they say what goes around comes around. In my case, I’m referring to my parents and their furnishings that adorned our home when I was young.
I remember having quite strong opinions on the choices they made, I often either disagreed or was embarrassed by most things they would buy. Well, I’ve been noticing a different type of trend as of late, one that is making me revisit those opinions and flip them on their heads. It started with a simple pendant lamp I would see reappearing in magazines and blog posts, I recognized it every time. We had one in our main entrance in our family home and what I remember the most about it was that it often became an obstacle for tall people who would arrived for a visit. Now, I covet very similar items to it and am happy to see it’s re-emergence in the interior world.
We also had sunny floral wallpaper in the kitchen. It was bright yellow and even without much sunlight, it would light up the room. Yellow is a colour I am now as an adult gravitating towards, whether it be as an accent colour or on the walls as we had then.
My mum had hung an art wall in our living room over our sofa which is something I will want to do myself once we tackle the living room. There is so much inspiration and I can now understand how much planning it took to get it just right.
What I also remember was having an over-sized antique green glass bottle my Father used to use as a change catcher. He also cherished a beat up old vintage trunk which in fact we used for one of our shoots. I can honestly say that I can truly appreciate the taste and aesthetic my parents displayed in our small home. I just hope some day our children will feel the same way too.
What furnishings do you remember from your childhood that are back in your home in a more modern way?
